COVID-19 Farm Safety

CAES ranked #3 in U.S.
The University of Georgia’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) is ranked third on the 2020 list of Best Colleges for Agricultural Sciences in the U.S. by rankings platform Niche.
"Ike" Oguadinma, a graduate student on the University of Georgia Griffin campus, is one of 15 students who received the award at the SQF International Conference held last October in San Antonio, Texas. Each student received a $3,000 scholarship and an all-expense-paid trip to attend the conference with more than 850 food safety professionals. CAES News

Produce Safety Grants
Three University of Georgia food scientists are among the recipients of grants awarded by the Center for Produce Safety (CPS) as part of its $2.7 million program. The grants will fund projects focused on food safety issues related to fruits and vegetables.

Harvest 20 Grants
The Georgia Farm Bureau (GFB) has awarded $94,000 in research grants to seven University of Georgia scientists and their research teams who are addressing production issues impacting Georgia farmers.
Chef Lidia Bastianich will speak at the UGA Chapel on Oct. 2 at 3 p.m. The event, "A Conversation with Lidia Bastianich: A Life of Love, Family, and Food,” is sponsored by the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES). Before farm-to-table was a culinary catchphrase, there were families who ate what they grew on their farms simply because that’s what they had to eat.
The only way to properly remove and kill bacteria from raw poultry meat is to thoroughly cook the poultry to a minimum of 165 degrees Fahrenheit. A USDA report now shows that even if consumers don't wash raw poultry, the food safety risk is still present due to other common habits. CAES News
Cooking Chicken Safely
Food safety experts have been warning consumers against washing and rinsing raw poultry for many years, citing how the bacteria in poultry juices can spread and cross contaminate other foods, utensils and surfaces. A USDA report shows that many aren't listening.
